Islander
The Islander

  Islander is an 88' x 24' deluxe sportfisher. Built as the Red Rooster II, she was originally designed as a long-range vessel. As such she played a critical role in the development of San Diego 's modern long-range fleet.

  The industry has seen many changes since then and Islander Shark Expeditions has followed suit. Running trips that range from one to seven days, the Islander is designed with passenger comfort and safety in mind.

  The bridge of the Islander has the most up to date equipment available , including a Furuno color fathometer, Wesmar 800 HD side scanning sonar, computerized navigational software, three GPS systems, two sideband radios, three VHF radios, sea temperature meter, autopilot, and 72 and 24 mile radar. Reliable and well maintained electronics are a necessity when operating in offshore waters. Islander Shark Expeditions places the safety of passengers and crew at the forefront of our operation.

  The Islander we recognizes the importance of fine food on the water. The galley is fully equipped for any style of cooking providing passengers with a wide range of cuisine. From traditional meals to fresh fish caught that day, Islander Shark Expeditions cuts no corners in our efforts to present a truly memorable menu. Dietary restrictions are not a problem and the chefs look forward to accommodating your needs.

  The salon area is very spacious with ample room for 20 passengers at one seating. Complete with a TV and VCR/DVD, the salon is an excellent place to wind down after a day of diving or while en route to the island.

  Islander boasts a 250 scoop bait capacity, an advantage when the opportunity to catch a world class Guadalupe Island Yellowfin or Yellowtail arises Additionally, Islander has two fish holds capable of holding ten tons. For those who choose to fish, the fish hold configuration also allows us to store your catch in the RSW(refrigerated sea water) fashion ensuring a superior product dockside.

  Islander is powered by two reliable Caterpillar 3406 Diesel engines and are routinely maintained for maximum performance. Twin Isuzu generators provide 115v power at all times. The boat has a fresh water tank which is supplemented as needed by a reverse osmosis water maker capable of generating 400 gallons of water daily. In addition, our two hot water heaters provide plenty of hot water for showers any time of the day.

  The boat has 11 staterooms, all of which have their own air conditioning and wash basin.

The Islander is run by Federally licensed Captains and our entire crew is STCW trained and tested, which requires CPR, firefighting, and water survival skills. Divers are never left unattended and all equipment is inspected before use. In addition, all pertinent safety issues are covered by the Captain in a comprehensive meeting once the boat is underway.
